In April 2012, Softbank Rental launched iPad SIM rental. The service is designed to offer travellers better solution for staying connected while they are travelling in Japan. It is a completely fixed-rate communication service with unlimited data, so people can use the Internet as often and as much as they like.
Softbank Rental is offering a special daily rental of 1,260 yen/day {£10} for orders placed by 31 October 2012 (regular price 1,575 yen/day {£12.50}). Advanced-booking is required for the rental.

For Android phones, Softbank Rental has SIM cards and 3G SIMs. However, these SIM cards are for voice calls and text messages only so do not enable Internet browsing, emails, or any other functions that requires a data connection. If data is necessary for Android phones, Softbank offer mobile WiFi routers or you can buy a SIM from b mobile or rent one from Global Advanced Communications. Alternatively, you could drop into one of Japan’s numerous media cafes for all your internet needs!
